SCHENECTADY, NY -- Michelle Rogers scored 22 points and
Maria Tobin added 16 points for Union in a 65-52 women's basketball win over St. Lawrence Saturday at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Dutchwomen, 9-3 overall, are now 3-0 in the Liberty League while the Saints fell to 8-4 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Rogers, the leader in NCAA Division III field goal percentage, made a remarkable 10 of her 11 shots from the floor and added six rebounds. It was Rogers' fifth game of 20 or more points this season. Tobin also had six boards and
Selin Whitham had a game best eight assists with a team high seven rebounds and seven points. Whitham has five games of eight or more assists.
Whitham left after the game to attend the University Presidential Inaugural Conference in Washington, DC.
St. Lawrence was led by Brittany Parham (Fort Drum, NY), who scored 12 points, and Abby Stanton (Avon, NY), who pulled down seven rebounds. Union shot 51% for the day and had a slight 31-29 rebounding advantage, while the Saints shot 40%.
Union had an eight point lead at halftime, 34-26, and led by 10 at 39-29 with 17:28 remaining in the second half. The Saints got as close as five at 43-38 with 14:08 left, but Union went on a 15-2 run in the next 6:39 for a commanding 58-40 lead. The Dutchwomen outscored the Saints, 36-20 in the paint, including 20-10 in the second half.
The Dutchwomen are on the road next week, with league games at Hamilton Friday and William Smith Saturday.
