In goal, sophomore
Corey Milan built on his eight saves in the first with 11 in the second, 11 in the third. His 30 saves helped him earn his ninth victory of the season and 15th of his career.
Union, who fought off a late UML charge, used several different line changes to help snap its three-game skid. Notably, Walters centered Presizniuk and junior
Mario Valery-Trabucco, while freshman
Kelly Zajac played in between senior
Matt Cook and Boileau.
The Dutchmen made their moves at the beginning of the first two periods. Boileau turned a UMass-Lowell turnover into his 12th career goal. After winning the puck in the neutral zone, the Blainville, QB native raced along the right side and fired a shot across the body of goaltender Carter Hutton only 5:40 into the first. The goal was unassisted.
In the second period, Walters made the Hawks pay for another miscue. Presizniuk stole the puck in the offensive end, causing a two-on-one, and dished to Walters for the one-timer in the slot. The assist was Presizniuk's team-high tying nine of the season.
Moments later Union almost went up three goals when Boileau lead a fast break into UML's zone. He made a pass to a cutting Zajac, who made a quick dish to Cook for the one-timer. Hutton got his right leg on it at the last second.
A River Hawk power-play goal with only 2:10 remaining in the second pulled the score to 2-1. The marker was credited to Matt Ferreira from Michael Budd and Nick Schaus.
River Hawks goaltender Carter Hutton turned away 21 of Union's 23 shots on goal.
The Dutchmen return to ECAC Hockey action on Friday, Jan. 9 with a 7 p.m. contest at eight-ranked Princeton.
