SCHENECTADY, NY -- Natalie Engel had a goal and an assist and
Kelsey Powers dished out two assists to lead the Union field hockey team to a 3-0 win over St. Joseph's Sunday at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen halted a four game losing streak and improved to 6-7 after the non-league victory, while the Monks fell to 11-3 and ended a four game winning streak.
Union had a 22-6 shot advantage and goalkeeper
Sarah Rios recorded her fourth shutout of the season. Rios made three saves, while Meaghan Johnson (Portland, ME) stopped 10 for the Monks.
Engel opened the scoring with an assist from Powers just 1:52 into the contest, and it was the sophomore's first goal of the season.
Lizzy Moran notched her fourth of the year just under three minutes later for a 2-0 Union lead. The senior got a pass from Engel and took a high shot inside the left post at 4:49. It remained a two goal game at the half.
Isabel Zellweger closed out the scoring with her fourth of the year at 34:44, when she took a pass from Powers and tipped in the tally.
Union had an 11-2 advantage in corners. This was the first meeting between the two schools in field hockey.
The Dutchwomen close out their home season, and a stretch of six straight games at home, on Wednesday. Union will host Williams at 6 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field.
