NEW PALTZ, NY -- The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team fell to the Dutchwomen of Union, by a score of 2-1, on Friday evening on the Turf Field.
Union closed out the regular season with a 10-7 record, recording the fifth straight 10 win season and seventh in program history.
The Hawks opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Sarah Schloss found the back of the cage with an assist from Alyssa Finck.
In the 30th minute Union answered right back with a goal from Caroline Moran, as she notched her first goal of the season. A minute later, Finck fired a shot but was saved by the diving Union goalkeeper Sarah Rios, keeping it a score of 1-1 at the half.
In the 48th minute Schloss go open around Union defenders but was stopped at the last moment when her shot was saved by the diving Rios. In the 62nd minute Lauren Winchell scored for Union, making it a final score of 2-1. It was Winchell's fifth tally of the season.
Rios earned the victory in net for the Dutchwomen. She allowed one goal while saving 11 shots. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Tong recorded the loss in net for New Paltz, allowing two goals while saving seven.
Union will play next Wednesday, November 4 in the Liberty League Semifinals. The Dutchwomen will play the #1 seed, a team and host that is to be determined this weekend.
