Box Score

SCHENECTADY, NY – In a must-win game for a Liberty League playoff berth, the Union College men's soccer team (10-5-2, 4-3-0 LL) delivered with a 4-1 victory against Skidmore (7-9-0, 2-5-0 LL) on Saturday at College Park. Union, which will be the fourth seed, advances to the postseason with the help of a RPI, 4-0 win at Vassar. Union will now travel to RPI for a semi-final game on Wednesday. The Dutchmen upset the then sixth-ranked Engineers, 1-0, earlier this season.

As for Saturday's matchup, senior midfielder Ryan Banagan got the scoring started at 15:55 when sophomore midfielder Teddy Steen found Banagan alone in the box for his six goal of the season.

The eventual game-winner came off the foot of freshman forward Sahr Nyuma thanks to a great individual effort by junior midfielder Keite Minakawa to setup the play at 40:25.

Freshman forward Sebastian Jansen made it 3-0 at 47:38 and senior defender Brendan Steiner converted a penalty kick to make it 4-0 at 84:58.

The Thoroughbreds didn't go away with a late surge, which resulted in a goal from junior midfielder Doug at 85:49. The goal was his team-leading ninth and came after a failed clear attempt inside the box.

Sophomore forward Adam Margulies made his return from injury, making four saves for his eighth win of the year. At the other end, sophomore Nick Peterson made four saves in just over 60 minutes of action and senior goaltender Chris Ford made two stops.
