CANTON, NY --
A well-rounded attack led the Union College men's ice hockey team to a 4-3 victory at St. Lawrence (5-4-1, 1-2-1) on Friday night, halting a four-game winless streak (two losses and two ties). The Dutchmen got goals from four different student-athletes to move to 1-1-1 in ECAC Hockey play and 4-3-3 overall. Seniors Mario Valery-Trabucco and Mike Schreiber joined sophomores Brian Yanovitch and Kelly Zajac with multi-point efforts.

Freshman goaltender Keith Kinkaid earned his first career victory, stopping 20 shots along the way in his third career start.

Valery-Trabucco registered his fourth multi-point game of the year with a goal and an assist, while Schreiber posted two assists giving him five point in three games. A goal and an assist returned Yanovitch to the scoresheet after going pointless in his last three outings.

The scoring started after Yanovitch chipped the puck ahead to Zajac, who fought off several St. Lawrence defenders as he carried the puck behind the net. After faking towards the goal, he found junior defenseman Brock Matheson sneaking towards the top of the left face-off dot for a one-timer over the glove of senior Alex Petizian at 7:39.

Valery-Trabucco broke the scoring in the second period when he sniped a shot over the right shoulder of Petizan with three seconds remaining on a power play. The tally, which came at 3:57 of the second, was setup by Schreiber and freshman defenseman Shawn Stuart.

A goal by Saint's senior Alex Curran made it 2-1, before Yanovitch reclaimed Union's two-goal advantage at 10:25. An outlet pass by senior forward Jason Shaffer created a two-on-one for Yanovitch and senior forward Jason Walters, who dished to the sophomore at the top of the crease.

Zajac cashed in for his fifth goal of the season and fourth power-play goal at 15:36. Valery-Trabucco received a pass from Schreiber at the point and threw it on net where Zajac found the rebound.

Goals by sophomore Brandon Bollig at 13:00 and senior Derek Keller at 17:01 pulled the Saints within one, setting up a fast-paced finish. The Saints final opportunity came with three ticks remaining, but a sea of garnet and white jerseys rejected an attempt on net.

The Dutchmen's special teams didn't disappoint, going 2-5 on the power play and killing off 4-5 SLU man-advantages.

Union outshot St. Lawrence 29-23 and are now when 3-1-3 when outshooting its opponents.

The Dutchmen will try and go 2-0 in the North Country for the first time since the 2002-03 season when they conclude their road trip Saturday, Nov. 14 with a 7 p.m. contest at Clarkson.
