SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Freshman forward
Jeannie Sabourin scored her first career goal to tie the game but the Union College women's ice hockey team (2-9-1, 0-5-1 ECAC Hockey) were set back 2-1 to Yale (1-5-1, 1-5-0) Saturday afternoon.
Freshman goaltender
Alana Marcinko made 28 saves against the Bulldogs.
Yale forward Caroline Murphy scored the first goal less than two minutes into the second period. Sabourin responded and scored 10:41 into the second period when a cross by sophomore forward
Callee Heywood found Sabourin who one touched the puck into the goal and tie the game.
However, Murphy scored the winning goal 5:27 into the third period. On a positive note, Union extends it penalty kill streak to 23, having been to the penalty box five times against the Bulldogs.
In the first period, freshman forward
Emma Rambo took a backhand shot to get Union started but the puck missed the left pipe. After a successful pass by sophomore forward
Molly Kate Devin, junior forward
Suzanne Ostrow took a shot that barely missed the right pipe.
Marcinko was kept busy in the first period. One of her best saves in the first period came off Yale forward Danielle Moncion near the crease line. Moncion took a shot from the loose puck but Marcinko made the save.
Sophomore forward
Émilie Arseneault took a shot from the center of the rink but Yale goaltender Genny Ladiges deflected the puck.
Union came close to tying the game again when Rambo made a long cross pass to Sabourin but her shot was saved by Ladiges.
