Dutchmen Fall Short in Championship Game Against Host Western Connecticut

Senior guard Joey Lokitis scored 18 points and made eight rebounds against Western Connecticut.

DANBURY, Conn. – Senior guard Joey Lokitus scored 18 points but the Union College men's basketball team lost to Western Connecticut 64-61 in the championship game of the Western Connecticut State University Classic.

Junior guard Drew Goldstein made two successful free throws to tie the game at 61 apiece with 41 seconds left in the game. However, with one second left, a three-point free throw by Western Connecticut's DaQuan Brooks allowed the Colonials to re-take the lead and the win.

The Dutchmen shot 50 percent from beyond the arc. Lokitus made all four three-point shots while leading the team in rebounds with eight. Goldstein went four for six on the free throw line and made six rebounds.

Union will open its home side of the 2009-10 schedule against Southern Vermont on Tuesday. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
