MIDDLEBURY, VT -- Sophomore forward
Rusmir Dzanko scored a career best 16 points but the Union men's basketball team lost 76-56 at Middlebury Saturday. The Panthers are now 7-0 on the season while the Dutchmen stand 3-3.
Dzanko made eight off 11 shots from the floor and also pulled down six rebounds.
Joey Lokitis also had six boards along with 14 points, and
Drew Goldstein scored 11 points while making all three of his three point attempts.
Jake Wolfin scored 13 points and Ryan Sharry tallied 12 for Middlebury. Nolan Thompson added 11 and Sharry and Ryan Wholey each had six rebounds for the Panthers. The hosts shot 49% and held Union to 36%, and Middlebury outrebounded Union, 45-32.
The Panthers took a 40-29 lead into the intermission. Middlebury's largest lead of the second half was 32, when Tim Edwards hit a three pointer to make it 68-36.
Middlebury shot 46% from three point land and 60% from the line, while Union had a 35% three point shooting mark and 63% free throw percentage.
Kevin Donohue scored six points for Union and Wholey added eight for the Panthers.
Union has two more games remaining in the month. The Dutchmen are at Western New England December 12 and play at Utica on December 15.
