 Box Score

SCHENECTADY, NY –
Sophomore forward John Simpson and junior forward Jason Walters both had goals in Union's 4-2 setback against No. 10 and first-place Yale on Friday night at Messa Rink. The Dutchmen attempt to fight back from a 3-1 deficit late in the third, but time ran out moving their record to 14-13-2 overall and 7-9-1 in the conference. Behind 34 stops by sophomore Ryan Rondeau, Yale improves to 18-5-1 and 12-3-1.

Simpson registered his career-high tying fifth goal of the season with a power-play tally in the second and Walters picked up his ninth goal with just over seven minutes remaining in the game.

The Bulldogs were led by a goal and an assist from sophomore Make Matczak and two assists from sophomore Broc Little.

Rondeau earned his fifth win of the season, while sophomore goaltender Corey Milan moved to 14-13-2 with 11 saves.

Union held a 36-15 advantage in shots and frustrated Yale into taking eight penalties, while only taking three.

For the majority of the first, both squads played equal; each side killed off two penalties. Despite finishing the period with a 10-5 shot advantage, the Dutchmen found themselves trailing 1-0 at the break. Senior Patrick Brosnihan scored his fourth goal of the season with a wrist shot over the glove of Milan with four minutes remaining. Sophomore Mike Matczak and Jimmy Martin were given the assists.

Midway through the second period at 9:16, Matczak made it 2-0 on an odd man rush that began in the Bulldogs defensive end. Freshman Kevin Limbert hit sophomore Broc Little through the neutral zone. After gaining the blue line, Little pulled up and found Matczak for a one-timer in the slot.

Minutes later at 12:52, while on the power play, Milan made a right pad save and kicked out the rebound to Simpson who fled the defensive zone, wheeled around Yale defenders and outlasted Richards for his 10th career goal. The assist was the second o the season for Milan.

A turnover in the defensive end by Union led to Yale's third goal, which came at 6:09 of the third period. The shorthanded goal by sophomore Denny Kearney was setup by Little.

Walters scored his 22nd career goal after causing a turnover in the neutral zone and going short side with a slap shot.

Yale freshman Brian O'Neill put the finishing touches on the win with a goal at 18:26 of the third.

Union has as quick turnaround as it hosts Brown for a 4 p.m. contest on Saturday, Feb. 14.
