SCHENECTADY, NY -- Maria Tobin scored 18 points and
Megan Clark came off the bench to post career highs of 12 points and seven rebounds as Union won a Liberty League women's basketball game at Vassar, 87-49 Saturday.
Rachel Beaulac also had a career high of seven rebounds as the Dutchwomen improved to 16-6 overall and 10-2 to lead the league. The Brewers fell to 3-19 and are 0-11 in league play.
Union's reserves, led by Clark and Beaulac, got to see plenty of time with the large lead. The Union bench outscored Vassar's, 36-12, and had a 30-6 rebounding advantage.
Michelle Rogers and
Lauren McCormick had 14 points each. Rogers, who scored her 1,000th career point last night at RPI, pulled down a defensive rebound with 18:17 left in the second half to record her 500th career rebound. She is the 12th Dutchwoman to have 500 rebounds in a career, and the first to do so since Krystal Hammond in the 2006-07 season. Only six players have had both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds at Union, and the last was Kaitlyn Cunningham in 2003-04.
Brittany Parks led all players with 22 points for Vassar, and Emily Haeuser added 13 with a team best seven rebounds. Union outrebounded Vassar, 44-24 for the day, and had a 42-24 lead at halftime.
The Dutchwomen shot 52% for the game, including 54% in the first half, and held the Brewers to 31% shooting. Union forced 29 turnovers, the most by a Union opponent since Vassar had 30 at Union on January 30. Tobin had seven assists and
Selin Whitham added four in the victory.
While Union leads the league with the 10-2 mark with two games remaining, RPI is second with an 8-3 mark and has three contests left. St. Lawrence and William Smith each have four league losses. The Dutchwomen close out the regular season next weekend with home games against William Smith Friday (6 p.m.) and Hamilton Saturday (2 p.m.).
