SCHENECTADY, NY -- Michelle Rogers, one of four seniors honored prior to their last regular season home game, scored a game high 15 points to lead Union to a 48-44 Liberty League women's basketball victory over Hamilton on Senior Day at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon.

The Dutchwomen finished the regular season on top of the league standings with a 12-2 mark, and stand 18-6 overall while the Continentals now stand 14-10 and 7-7. Hamilton needed to win to stay in contention for the fourth and final Liberty League tournament berth. Union will host the tourney next weekend.

The win also was the 200th in the Union career of Head Coach Mary Ellen Burt. She now stands 200-158 in her career for a winning percentage of 56%. This is the 10th straight non-losing season for Union and Burt has guided the Dutchwomen to 18 or more wins six times, and five of the last seven years.

Lauren McCormick scored nine points and Selin Whitham had seven points, seven rebounds and five steals for the Dutchwomen, winners of three straight and eight of nine. Union outrebounded the Continentals, 31-26, and although the Dutchwomen shot 34%, they forced 25 Hamilton turnovers. Rogers, Whitham, Maria Tobin and Rachel Scott were the seniors (and captains) honored prior to the game.

Senior guard Molly Kane (Sherrill, NY) led all Continentals with 10 points and four rebounds, and Sydney Fasulo (Lancaster, PA) also had four rebounds with seven points. Hamilton shot 41% for the contest.

Union had a 27-20 halftime lead and had forced 17 turnovers in the first half. Rogers had 10 of her points in that first half. Union led by as many as 11 at 37-26 with 13:48 left in the second, but the Continentals went on a 13-4 run in the next 10:35 to pull to within two at 40-38. It stayed close throughout the final minutes. Two free throws by Reisa Asimovic (Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina) kept the Continentals down two at 44-42 with 1:49 left. After a Rogers layup at 1:26 made it a four point game, Fasulo drained a jumper at 1:02 for a 46-44 score. But Rogers was fouled with 34 seconds left, and made both free throws, for the eventual 48-44 final.

Union will host the Liberty League Championship with two semifinal games Friday and the title game Saturday. The Dutchwomen will play the fourth seed, Skidmore at 8 p.m., while #2 St. Lawrence will face #3 RPI in the other semifinal at 6 p.m. The title game will be Saturday at 3 p.m.
