Dutchwomen win third straight, 64-50 at home over Skidmore

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College women's basketball team remained tied for first place in the Liberty League at 7-1 with a 64-50 victory over Skidmore Tuesday night at the Viniar Athletic Center. Michelle Rogers scored 20 points and Lauren McCormick pulled down eight rebounds while Selin Whitham had 10 assists. The Dutchwomen are now 13-5 overall after a third straight win, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 3-5 in the league and 6-13 overall.

Kellye Caufield (Monroe, CT) scored 15 points and Sharlyn Harper (New York, NY) scored 13 for Skidmore. Union forced 21 turnovers and shot 46%, while making 14 of 17 from the line, good for an 82% mark. The Thoroughbreds shot 40% but did have a 32-26 rebounding advantage.

Union held the visitors to 23% shooting and 13 points with a 24-13 lead at halftime. Skidmore got as close as six in the second half, trailing 35-29 with 11:31 left on a jumper by Cyrida Felton (Dayton, OH). But Union went on a 6-0 run in the next 1:10 featuring four points from Rogers, and never trailed by less then seven the rest of the way. The largest lead of the night for the Dutchwomen was 15 at 62-47 with 18 seconds remaining.

Whitham, ranked seventh nationally in assists in NCAA Div. III, had her second 10 assist game, while Rogers posted her sixth game of 20 or more points.

Union will be on the road for the next four games. The Dutchwomen take on St. Lawrence, which also stands 7-1 in the league, in Canton Friday night. Skidmore is at Clarkson Friday night.
