CANTON, NY -- Seven players scored in double figures, led by Richard Wiliams with 17, as St. Lawrence defeated Union in a Liberty League men's basketball game, 99-80 Friday night at Burkman Gym. The Saints now stand 8-1 in the league and 14-5 overall while the Dutchmen fell to 4-5 in the league and 11-8 overall.
Josh Sharlow scored 14 points and Garrett Sharlow scored 13, while three players, Tom Wopperer, Bela Vonnak and Terry Parham, scored 10 points each for the Saints. Ralph Temgous had eight rebounds for the hosts.
Drew Desmarais led all players with 27 points for Union, and
Nick Ciresi scored 17 points. Ciresi made seven of eight shots for the night.
Steve Madej, who along with Desmarais and Ciresi is serving as a captain this season, scored 14 points.
Matt Covucci had five rebounds and
Joey Lokitis dished out a game best seven assists.
St. Lawrence led 46-43 at halftime, then exploded for 57 points in the second half. The Saints shot 54% for the game, while Union shot 48%. The Dutchmen made 14 of 18 free throws, good for 78%. Union had a seven point lead in the first half with 12:52 left, but the Saints had a 24 point lead with just 4:02 left in the second half en route to the win. The hosts outrebounded the Dutchmen by 10, 39-29.
Union is at Clarkson Saturday at 4 p.m.
