CANTON, NY -- Lauren McCormick scored a career and game best 20 points and
Michelle Rogers had 12 points and a game high 11 rebounds as Union won the matchup of the two Liberty League leaders, 51-47 Friday night at St. Lawrence's Burkman Gym. The Dutchwomen (14-5 overall) are now 8-2 atop the league, while the Saints (14-5) are 7-2, with both losses to Union.
McCormick recorded her second double double of the season while Rogers had her fourth game with double figure points and rebounds.
Selin Whitham had a game high six assists, and
Rachel Scott added seven points for Union, winners of four straight and seven of the last nine.
Katie Palmer led the Saints with 15 points and Lauren Sischo pulled down eight rebounds for the Saints. Casey Capello had 11 points for St. Lawrence. Union shot 37% and won despite making one of 10 three pointers and having 20 turnovers. But the Dutchwomen allowed just a 28% shooting mark by St. Lawrence, the third time Union has held an opponent under 30% this season.
St. Lawrence's largest lead was six with 32 seconds left in the first half, and the Saints led 24-23 at halftime. Union was up by five,41-36 with 8:39 left in the second, and led 43-38 with 7:45 remaining. The Saints tied the game on a three pointer by Palmer with 1:47 left, but the Dutchwomen took the lead for good on a free throw by Rogers with 1:29 left. The Dutchwomen made five free throws in the final 1:29 to hold onto the lead, and two free throws by Whitham with 13 seconds left iced it to make it the four point lead, the final of 51-47.
Union is at Clarkson Saturday at 2 p.m.
