Dutchwomen Lose First Leg Of North Trip 6-0

The Union College women's ice hockey team experienced a 6-0 setback during its afternoon game at Clarkson on Friday. Senior goaltender Lundy Day turned aside 40 shots as Union goes to 2-24-3, 0-16-1 and Clarkson improves to 15-9-5, 8-5-3.

Day, who continues to increase here record save total, made 21 saves in the first, 14 in the second and 11 in the third.

Forward Britney Selina led the Golden Knights with two goals and an assist, while forward Melissa Waldie had a goal and an assists. Defender Kimbery McKenney also registered a multi-point effort with two assists.

Waldie started the scoring 6:31 into the first on a high shot from along the right boards. Senior defenseman Courtney O'Connor and freshman blueline partner Katelyn Ptolemy assisted. With seven seconds left in its first power play of the game, Selina connected off assists from McKenney and junior Tegan Schroeder to put the Knights on top 2-1 at 15:53.

At 4:49 of the second stanza, junior Ashleigh Moorehead, positioned at the top of the crease, redirected a pass from McKenney for her first goal of the year. Freshman Kali Gillanders  also assisted. Selina made it 2-0 with the Knights' second shorthanded goal of the year when she knocked in a rebound off of Waldie's shot at 10:10.

Sophomore Caitlin Oleksa started the third period scoring her first career goal, redirecting a shot from the point by junior defenseman Carlee Eusepi at 3:07. Sophomore Daris Tendler  also assisted.

Freshman Juan Baribeau closed out the scoring with her team-high 17th goal of the season at 11:28 with Selina and senior Marie-Jo Gaudet assisting.

Union goes to No. 6 St. Lawrence for a 2 p.m. outing on Saturday, Feb. 7.
