KING'S POINT, NY – After falling behind 4-0 late in the second quarter, the Union College men's lacrosse team (2-1) responded with 10 straight goals en route to a 10-5 victory at Merchant Marine Academy (3-2) on Saturday. Freshman

Brendan Kinnane led the way with two goals each.
The Mariners opened the game with goals by Brennan Dougherty, Tyler Spaulding and two by Brian Flannery. They carried a 4-0 lead until freshman
Nick Alfonzetti put Union on the board with his second goal of the season with only 57 ticks remaining in the first half.
Kinnane posted goals at 11:02 and 1:14 in the third quarter and McKenna filled the gap with his second goal of the season at 3:49.
With the score even early in the third, McKenna found pay dirt again and freshman
Ethan Meyer registered a crucial man-up goal at 12:15. The goal, which was the eventual game-winner, was his third of the season and third in as many games.
Sophomore
Ian Hunter increased Union's lead moments later with his second tally of the season at 11:28. Junior
Peter Kennedy and senior
Matthew Douglas quickly added to the Dutchmen's offensive efforts with goals at 9:16 and 7:41.
The team's leading scorer, junior
Andrew Higgins, topped things off with his fifth goal of the season at 3:02.
Senior goalkeeper
Christopher Keinath stood strong in goal with 13 saves, including several from point-blank range. The senior was also able to control his rebounds and quickly move the ball forward.
The Dutchmen outshot the Marines, 35-27, and had a 23-27 advantage with shots on goal. Union also won the battle for the loose balls, grabbing 39 groundballs to Merchant Marines 25. Sophomores
Derek Witheford and
Derek Mayer each collected a team-high four groundballs.
Mayer and senior
Kevin Rautenstrauch helped Union win 11-of-19 face offs. Mayer won five, while Rautenstrauch won six.
The Dutchmen now travel to Stanford, CA for a 4 p.m. (EST) contest against Whittier on Sunday, Mar. 22.
