SCHENECTADY, NY – The 1-1 tie was disrupted during the 96
th minute when senior
Ryan Banagan fired a shot from 15 yards out off the crossbar and into the back of the net, giving the Union College men's soccer team a 2-1 win against the Rochester Institute of Technology. With the win the Dutchmen are off to a 3-0-0 start, while R.I.T goes to 2-2-1.
Banagan's goal, his first of the season, was setup off the foot of sophomore
Marc Zeyak at 96:22.
Union wasted no time early, scoring only 4:05 into the contest when Banagan fed a throw ball to a streaking Sebastiaan Jensen, who one touched it behind the goalkeeper.
The Dutchmen had their shutout streak snapped when RIT's Dom Coleprete found a loose ball in the box after a direct kick at 53:17. Union, who hadn't allowed a goal until that point, saw its streak stand at 233:17 when the goal went home.
Sophomore Adam Marguilies, the man between the pipes, turned away two shots for his third win of the season.
At the other end, Bora Turgut made six saves as he goes to 2-2-1.
The Dutchmen return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 16 for a 6 p.m. outing against SUNY Geneseo.
