Dutchmen lose 17-7 at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, PA
– Terrence Dandridge rushed for 112 yards on 24 carries to lead Muhlenberg College to a 17-7 non-league football win over #22 Union College Saturday at Scotty Wood Stadium. Both teams now stand 1-1 on the young season.

 

Dandridge had 112 of the team's 200 rushing yards, while Union's defense held Mules quarterback Justin Kreamer to 9 for 23 with two interceptions and 67 yards. His top target, Phil Cresta, had seven catches for 54 yards.

 

Union junior running back Chris Coney led the Dutchmen with 60 yards on 20 carries, while quarterback Andrew Connolly was 10 for 27 with two interceptions. Both quarterbacks had one passing touchdown. Coney caught 40 yards on four receptions and Justin Gallo had two catches for 49 yards and the lone Union score, a seven yard catch from Connolly with 13 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

 

Defensively, Muhlenberg held Union to 232 total yards and stopped eight of 11 third down conversions. Patrick McDonough led the hosts with nine tackles while Andy Curley had two tackles for losses. Union's John Peters led the Dutchmen in tackles for the second straight week with a season high 14. Eric Baxter had both of the Union interceptions and Steve Modliszewski posted eight tackles.

 

After a scoreless first quarter, Cresta put the Mules on the board with a seven yard catch from Kreamer with 5:49 remaining in the second quarter. It capped a six play, 16 yard drive that took 3:20 and started when Frank Emmett recovered a Dutchman fumble at the Union 23 and returned it seven yards.

 

A five play, 49 yard scoring drive in 1:06 was wrapped up with Gallo's seven yard scoring strike from Connolly with 13 seconds left in the half, and it was 7-7 at halftime.

 

Muhlenberg took the lead for good just 14 seconds into the second half. Chase Nadell took the opening kickoff of the half 87 yards for the touchdown return. With four seconds elapsed in the fourth quarter, Michael Katz hit a 21 yard field goal to complete a 16 play, 95 yard drive that took 8:49 off the clock.

 

Union opens Liberty League play next Saturday at the University of Rochester at 6 p.m.
