Women's Soccer defeats St. Lawrence 2-1

Box Score

CANTON, NY – Junior forward Katie McLean tapped home a rebound off the crossbar 13:54 into the second half and it stood up as the game-winning goal as Union College completed a weekend Liberty League sweep of its North Country rivals with a 2-1 win at St. Lawrence University Saturday afternoon.

Union improves to 5-3-0 on the season and is 2-0-0 in Liberty League play, while the Saints are 5-3-2 overall and 0-2-0 in league action.

The Saints grabbed the early lead in Saturday's game as senior midfielder Becca Townsend worked the ball at the top left corner of the 18-yard box and then sent a perfect lead pass to sophomore Marcelle Justison, sending Justison in alone against Union goalie Abby Stohler. Justison scored her third of the year with a shot to the upper corner 7:18 into the game.

Union came back just 3:26 later as Allie Cuozzo sent a long ball into the Saint end and Jessica Strang chased it down in the box. While a Saint defender was able to get a piece of the shot, it deflected into the goal with Strang getting credit for her fourth of the season.

Union took the lead off a corner kick at the 58:54 mark as junior Caitlin O'Donnell's header of Katie Weinstein's corner kick, hit the cross bar and was touched in by McLean for her fourth of the season.

The Saints ended up with a 17-13 edge in shots with both goalies, Stohler for Union and Abby van Geldern for the Saints finishing with six saves.

The Dutchwomen return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 with a 7 p.m. contest against Utica.
