Dutchmen soccer opens with 9-0 win over John Jay in Union Classic

SCHENECTADY, NY --
Junior forward John Manna and junior defender Nicky Hoberman each tallied twice to lead Union College to a 9-0 season opening win over John Jay in first game of the 2009 Union College Men's Soccer Classic at College Park Field. The Bloodhounds fell to 1-1 on the young season.

Sebastiaan Jensen had a goal and two assists and Tim Pryor and Ryan Benagan assisted twice for the Dutchmen. The hosts got single goals from Kevan Benn, Sahr Nyuma and Chris Chiodo in the triumph. Union took 41 shots while allowing just one, and had a 15-1 advantage in corners. 

All three goaltenders saw action for the Dutchmen. Ryan Green was the starter and played just over 19 minutes while Mike Szczesniak played just over 17 minutes and Adam Marguilies played just under 54 minutes for Union. John Jay goaltender Chris Adao (Colonia, NJ) made six saves and played the entire game for the Bloodhounds.

Union had a 2-0 lead at halftime but had a commanding 6-0 lead after the 59:51 minute mark.

The Dutchmen host Worcester State Saturday at 6 p.m. while RPI will face John Jay at 3:30 p.m.
