SCHENECTADY, NY - Leah Pepe scored a career-high 19 points and had eight rebounds as the Union College women's basketball team defeated Hamilton College 62-56 Friday night at Viniar Athletic Center. The win also gives the Dutchwomen (3-9, 1-1 Liberty League) their first league win on the season. Hamilton moves to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Pepe went seven for 15 from the field, three of those were beyond the arc. Lauren McCormick put 14 points on the board in addition to seven rebounds.
On the visitor's side, Blue Sanders led the Continentals with 12 points. Reisa Asimovic and Madie Harlem each collected seven rebounds.
Union began the second half with a 32-24 lead. McCormick would extend the lead to a game-high 10 points. However, Hamilton began a 14-2 run in the span of 5:13 to cut Union's lead down to one.
Madie Harlem's shot from beyond the arc gave the Continentals' their first lead of the second half, making it 47-46 with 7:16 left of the game.
Union did not let Hamilton extend its lead. Pepe's three-point shot with 4:37 left gave the Dutchwomen the lead back. Pepe would add 11 more points toward the end of the game.
Harlem opened the game immediately, putting five points on the board in less than a minute into the game. Union rallied back and neither team extended their lead to more than four points for 15:30. A layup by McCormick with 3:28 left in the half began a 11-2 run for Union toward the end of the half. The first half ended with union leading 32-24.
Union returns to action Saturday when it will play William Smith at 2 p.m.
