Yale slips by Union women's hockey 3-0

The Union College women's ice hockey team fell, 3-0, at Yale on Friday. Freshman goaltender Alana Marcinko highlighted the Dutchwomen's efforts turning away 20 shots. With the setback, Union goes to 4-18-1 overall and 0-10-1 in ECAC Hockey, while Yale improves to 5-10-3 and 3-7-1 in conference play.

Marcinko, who entered the game fourth in ECAC Hockey with a .916 save percentage, only allowed two goals, improving her goals-against average to 2.61. She made five saves in the first, nine in the second and six in the third.

The Bulldogs used a pair of second period goals to build their leage. Jen Matichuk opened the scoring with her first goal of the season a 10:39 with assists going to Berit Johnson and Emily DesMeules.

With only 2:48 remaining in the second, Tara Tomimoto made it 2-0 with her second tally of the year. Daniell Moncion earned the assists.

Union head coach Claudia Asano elected to go with an extra attacker late in the game, but Bray Ketchum registered her eighth goal of the season by slipping on into the empty net.

The Dutchwomen outshot the Bulldogs 29-23, but Jackee Snikeris stood strong turning away each opportunity.

Union returns to the ice on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 4 p.m. at Brown.
