SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Lauren McCormick and
Megan Clark each recorded a double-double to help lift the Union College women's basketball team to a 61-48 win over St. Lawrence on Friday at Viniar Athletic Center. With the win, Union has won it's third straight and moves to 5-9 overall and 3-1 in Liberty League play. The loss moves St. Lawrence to 9-5 overall and 1-3 in league play.
McCormick had 19 points and a career high 17 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season. Clark finished with 18 points and 10 boards, her third double-double this winter. Leah Pepe added 15 points and two steals, and McCormick also had three blocks. With less than 2:00 minutes left in the first half, McCormick already had her double-double.
St. Lawrence was led by freshman forward Erica Spera (Binghamton, NY), who had 12 points, and junior guard Abby Stanton (Avon, NY), who had a team best 10 rebounds. St. Lawrence had 12 steals and forced 24 turnovers, but shot 24% for the night while the Dutchwomen shot 37%.
The Dutchwomen never trailed in the game. However, the Saints tied the Dutchwomen 8-8 with 11:56 left in the first half. A jumper by Leah Pepe began a 11-1 run in the next six minutes for the Dutchwomen. Union entered halftime with a 26-17 lead. Union never led by less than seven in the second half, and led by as many as 16 at 61-45 with six seconds left in the game.
Union's concludes the homestand on Saturday against Clarkson. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. St. Lawrence is at Skidmore Saturday at 2 p.m.
