No. 3 Clarkson defeats Union in ECAC Hockey game

Sophomore Forward Molly Kate Devin scored her second goal on the season.

Lauren Dahm made 19 saves to lead #3 Clarkson to a 3-1 victory over Union College in ECAC Hockey action Friday night at Messa Rink. The Golden Knights improved to 15-4-1 overall and 9-1-0, moving ahead of Cornell for first place in the league. The Dutchwomen fell to 4-16-1 overall and 0-8-1 in the league.

Britney Selina, Dominique Thibault and Juana Baribeau scored for the Golden Knights, who were tied with the Dutchwomen until Brittany Mulligan scored the first goal of the game with 1:40 left in the second period. Clarkson outshot the Union, 40-20 as Alana Marcinko made 37 saves in the Dutchwomen nets. Lauren Dahm made 19 saves for Clarkson while Molly Kate Devin scored the Union tally.

The Dutchwomen had their chances in a scoreless first period. With 6:47 left, Lauren Cromartie got a backhand shot on Dahm's left post and the Clarkson netminder made the stop. Then Nicole Bartlett was on the doorstep for a shot on a close rebound that was tied up.

Marcinko made some keys tops after Clarkson went on a power play at 16:57. The freshman stopped a point slapper from Brittany Mulligan with 1:40 left, and with 32 seconds left, Marcinko stopped a wrist shot from Kali Gillander from the right circle.

The Dutchwomen outshot the Knights, 8-5 in the first period.

Union had early pressure in the second stanza. Six minutes into the period, Arseneault had a solid shot from the slot stopped and less than two minutes later, Marissa Gentile broke in alone on the left side but was denied.

Clarkson finally broke the ice with the game's first score at 18:20. Brittany Mulligan notched her second of the season with an assist from Hailey Wood. Marcinko made the initial stop on a shot from the left circle but Mulligan picked up the rebound and deposited it for the 1-0 Knights lead.

The Knights made it 2-0 just 1:01 later. Dominique Thibeault scored her team high 12th of the season when she took a feed from Britney Selina. Clarkson's Juana Baribeau took a shot from the top of the left circle that hit the right post at 1:28 of the third period in a bid for a 3-0 lead. Union had another strong opportunity at 9:49 when Devin had a wrister close in front saved on the blocker side by Dahm.

Union made it 2-1 when Devin scored her second goal on the season at 13:55. Émilie Arseneault fed her from behind the net and Devin one-timed it low past Dahm's glove side for the power play tally.

With 1:41 left, Marcinko was pulled for the extra Union attacker. But with 30.1 seconds remaining Clarkson's Baribeau sealed the contest with the empty net tally from an assist from Daris Tendler.

Union hosts St. Lawrence Saturday night at 4 p.m. while Clarkson plays at RPI Saturday at 4 p.m.
