Men’s Soccer Slips to St. Lawrence in Overtime

Box Score

SCHENECTADY
, NY- For the second time this season, the Union College men's soccer team went to overtime with fellow Liberty League rival St. Lawrence and for the second time the Dutchwomen went down in the extra period as the Saints won 2-1 on a blustery Saturday afternoon at College Park.

The loss drops the men to 8-5-1 overall while St. Lawrence improves to 10-2-1.

The game was scoreless in the first half and would remain that way until 26:47 in the second half when an indirect kick from the Saints Sam Demello would bounce off the crossbar and was headed in by James Stewart to give St. Lawrence the 1-0 lead.

The Dutchmen had a chance to tie with 15 minutes remaining to play when Sebastiaan Jansen's shot stopped just short of crossing the line.  Union, however, would make good on their next opportunity when Alex Pack's throw in was connected by Craig Santangelo with just over four minutes to play to tie the game at 1-1.

Much like last week's game, this one would head into overtime where with 2:23 into the extra period, St. Lawrence's Brendan Gorman would slip to past Union's goaltender Adam Margulies to lift the Saints to victory.

Margulies made eight saves for Union.  Nate Goss-Woliner had three saves for the Saints.

The Dutchmen return to action next Saturday as they will host Liberty League rival RPI at 3 pm.
