New Hampshire posts 4-1 women's hockey win

SCHENECTADY, NY -- Arielle O'Neill scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead the University of New Hampshire to a 4-1 non-league ice hockey victory over Union College at Messa Rink Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 3-2 while the Dutchwomen fell to 1-3.

New Hampshire outshot Union, 41-20, and had a 3-0 lead after two periods. Union goaltender Kate Gallagher made 37 saves, including 20 in the first period when the Wildcats led just 1-0 after that stanza. Lindsay Minton made 19 stops for New Hampshire.

UNH took a 1-0 lead at 8:25 of the first, when Emma Clark set up Courtney Birchard. Just 13 seconds into the second period, O'Neill made it 2-0 with assists from Hannah Armstrong and Raylen Dziengelewski. O'Neill then fed Armstrong at 6:44 of the second for a 3-0 lead for the guests. 

Emilie Arseneault put the Dutchwomen on the board with 2:22 remaining in the third period. Chelsey Heinhuis and Kelly Alyea earned assists on the goal by the junior. O'Neill capped the scoring with an empty netter from the pass from her UNH teammate, Lindsey Minton.

The Dutchwomen wrap up the six game home stand to open the season next weekend. Union hosts Syracuse Friday and Saturday, October 22 and 23, at 3 p.m. each day.
