Dutchwomen Fall in OT in home opener

Elsa Bruestle (#24) scored her first career goal to tie the game in the second period
 
SCHENECTADY, NY-  The Union College women's ice hockey team dropped the puck on the 2010-2011 season and played a close game with visiting Northeastern but fell 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. Northeastern is now 1-0-1.
 
The Huskies got the win after a scrum in front of the Union net resulted in Northeastern's Brittany Esposito flipping the puck over Union goaltender Katie Gallagher.

The Dutchwomen struck first in the first period at 6:35 as Callee Heywood pushed the puck past Huskie goaltender Floren Schelling with assists by Emma Rambo and Rhianne Kurio. Northeastern would tie it up at 12:55 on Siena Falino's first of two goals on the day. Casi Fields and Dani Rylan assisted on the play.
 
After the Huskies went up 2-1 at 6:15 of the second period on Falino's second goal, Union knotted it up at two each just seven seconds later on an unassisted goal by Elsa Bruestle.
 
Following a scoreless third period, the game headed to overtime and the Huskies scored the game winner at 3:34.
 
Gallagher started in goal for the Dutchwomen and made 34 saves. Schelling made 23 saves for the Huskies.

Northeastern led in shots in the game 37-25.
 
Union returns to home ice next Saturday Oct. 9 as they will host the defending Hockey East Champion Boston University at 2 p.m.
