Orange Slip Past Dutchwomen 3-1

SCHENECTADY, NY-  The Union Women's Ice Hockey team played a tough game against visting Syracuse but the Orange pulled away late for a 3-1 victory on Friday afternoon at Messa Rink.  Syracuse improved to 3-2-1 while Union is now 1-4.

Following a scoreless first period, the Orange scored 8:26 into the second period when Lisa Mullen's shot went straight up above goalie Kate Gallagher's head and into the net for the score.  

Syracuse would score again at 3:11 into the third period to take a 2-0 lead.  Union would cut into that lead as# Lauren Cromartie# would score to make a 2-1 game. Gallagher would leave the ice with under 40 seconds left to give Union a one-up advantage but the Orange's Akane Hosoyamada would convert the empty netter to put away the game for Syracuse.

Gallagher had 24 saves in net for Union.  Stephanie Jones made 12 saves for Syracuse.

The Orange led in shots 27-13.  Both teams were scoreless on the power play as Syracuse was 0-for-3 while Union was 0-for-2.

The same teams go at it again at 3 pm tomorrow.
