SCHENECTADY, NY -- Isabel Zellweger scored two goals to lead Union College to a 4-1 non-league field hockey home win over SUNY New Paltz at Frank Bailey Field Wednesday afternoon. The Dutchwomen improved to 9-7 overall while the Hawks fell to 8-8.
The four goal total matched the season high for Union, in a 4-0 win over WPI on September 11.
Union won the contest despite being outshot, 18-16. The Dutchwomen had an 8-6 advantage in corners. Elizabeth Dini made five saves for the guests while Mary McCune stopped seven for Union.
Zellweger picked up a loose ball in front and scored her fourth of the year with 21:47 left in the first half. Just 14 seconds later,
Tyler Willey notched her third of the fall when she poked the ball past the goalkeeper in a race for the ball in front.
Union's
Kelsey Powers made it 3-0 with her team best 11th of the season. She picked up a rebound off a corner with 15:02 left in the half.
The Dutchwomen made it 4-0 when Zellweger scored her second of the day. Powers fed her and the direct shot found the back of the net at 35:48. Stacey Miller got a pass from Alyssa Finck at 52:36 to put the Hawks on the board, after converting in a scramble in front.
Union closes out the regular season Sunday with a 2 p.m. home game against Wheaton. The Dutchwomen finished the Liberty League season as the #4 seed and will play at #1 Skidmore on Wed., November 3 at a time to be announced.
