The Dutchwomen ended the regular season with a 10-7 record, and play Wednesday at Skidmore at 3 p.m. in a Liberty League Semifinal Tournament Game. The Lyons fell to 12-7 on the season, and will host Clark in a NEWMAC Quarterfinal Tuesday at 3 p.m.
It was the most goals Union scored in a game since October 14, 2005, when the Dutchwomen defeated Elmira, 7-2 at Frank Bailey Field.
This is the sixth straight season that Union has recorded 10 or more victories. The seven goal total was a 2010 season high for the Dutchwomen. Kelsey Powers had three assists in the game.
Willey opened the scoring for the Dutchwomen at 26:04. Powers took a shot out from the left and the rebound came directly on the doorstep to Willey, who knocked in her fourth goal of the season.
Union made it 2-0 when Winchell notched her third of the year at 12:11. A Union corner went to Powers, who fed Winchell in front in a crowd. The freshman turned around and tallied the second Dutchwomen score.
Just moments later, at 13:14, Zelllweger gave the Dutchwomen a three goal lead. Powers passed in traffic to Zellweger who took a quick shot just a few feet in front for her sixth of the season
Wheaton got on the board at 25:11. Aliza Underhill passed from 20 yards out and found Emily Chick open in front of the left post. Chick tapped in her eighth of the year for the Lyons to make it 3-1.
Zellweger notched her second of the day when she scored from 10 yards out and found the net open to the right of the keeper 38:54 and it was 4-1. Powers notched her 12th of the year at 45:22 for a 5-1 lead when she deked around two defenders to score.
Winchell then scored when she took a Willey pass from a corner from Andrea Meyers and blasted a slapshot in from 12 yards out for her second of the day and it was 6-1 for the hosts at 52:34. Willey got Union's seventh of the day at 56:33 on a Powers assist close in front.
Sarah Rios made seven saves for the Dutchwomen in just over 64 minutes while Ellie Massengill made 14 saves for the Lyons. The Dutchwomen had 30 shots to the Lyons' 10 and Union had nine corners to the Lyons' two.
