HOBOKEN, NJ -- The Union volleyball team featured another strong performance from junior
Eve Richards in posting a pair of victories during the Stevens Ducks Invitational this past weekend. Richards was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Dutchwomen had wins over Baruch and Polytechnic of New York during the tournament. Union is now 10-9 entering Tuesday's home match against Cazenovia. Match time is 7 p.m. at the Viniar Athletic Center.
The host Ducks opened play with a three set win over Union by scores of 27-25, 25-20 and 26-24. Richards and
Jordan Remillard had 10 kills each and
Mackenzie Westfall dished out 25 assists. Richards,
Erika VanValkenburg and
Casey Tepper each had 10 digs in this match.
Remillard led the Dutchwomen with 11 kills in a victory over Baruch. Union won by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 22-25 and 25-22. Remillard also had five block assists and
Mary Foley had six block assists while Richards had 11 kills and five block assists. Westfall had 44 assists and VanValkenburg recorded a team high 16 digs.
Union swept Polytech, 26-24, 25-23 and 29-27 for the 10th win of the season. Richards had 12 kills with Remillard adding 11, and Westfall had 38 assists. Richards and VanValkenburg each had 15 digs in the match victory.
Union ended tournament play with a four set defeat to MIT. MIT won by scores of 25-17, 28-26, 23-25 and 25-15. Richards produced 16 kills with 17 digs and Remillard added 11, while VanValkenburg had a season high 28 digs. Westfall finished with 42 digs.
