SCHENECTADY, NY- Eve Richards had 13 kills and Mackenzie Westfall added 19 assists as the Union volleyball team defeated visiting Cazenovia 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-16) at Viniar Athletic Center on Tuesday night. The Dutchwomen improve their record to 11-9 while Cazenovia falls to 5-7.
Kim Armstrong had 13 assists and Erica Van Valkenburg had 15 digs.
Union took an early 2-0 lead in the first set but the Wildcats would eventually tie the game at 11 all. The Dutchwomen would pull away in the end with the eight point win.
In the second set, the Wildcats took a 10-5 lead and were building some momentum. Union would rally with six straight points to go up 11-10. Cazenovia would then rally back and go up 16-12. The Dutchwomen again would rally back and tied the game at 17-17. It was a seesaw battle between both squads but Union would hold on to win by two.
Union would be down 3-1 early in the last set but rattled off seven straight points to go up 8-3. The lead would then increase to 17-8 and then 23-13 as the Dutchwomen dominated to win the third game and the match.
Union hosts Lasell College on Friday at 4 pm in the first game of the Interleague Challenge.
