Mackenzie Westfall dished out 65 assists in two matches and senior outside hitter
Eve Richards recorded 24 kills for the day as Union wrapped up play in the 2010 Interleague Volleyball Challenge Saturday. The two-day tournament was held in the Viniar Athletic Center and Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Dutchwomen wound up 3-1 for the tourney and now stand 14-10 overall. Union opened the day with a three set victory over Potsdam and closed out by losing to Ithaca in four sets. Richards was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Union downed the Bears by scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-6.
Erika VanValkenburg served up nine aces and added 10 digs, while Richards had 11 kills and Westfall passed for 30 assists.
Jordan Remillard added eight kills to go along with her four blocks.
In the final match, the Bombers took two straight sets after a 1-1 match tie en route to the victory. Ithaca won by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-20. Richards had 20 digs with 13 kills, and
Bridget Little blocked five to go along with 11 kills. Westfall added eight digs to her 35 assists and VanValkenburg joined Richards with 20 digs.
Cristina Vazzana also had a solid match with 14 digs.
Union is idle until Tuesday, October 19. On that night, the Dutchwomen will join The Sage Colleges and will be going Passionately Pink for the Cure® to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer. The teams will play at 7 p.m. at the
Viniar Athletic Center. The annual contest marks the fourth year for the event, which is called "Crankin' for the Cure."
