#9 Boston University defeats women's hockey, 6-2

Bartlett scored in the second period to get Union to within two

SCHENECTADY, NY- The Union women's ice hockey team faced a tough Boston University squad that was ranked in the top ten and fell to the visiting Terriers 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Messa Rink. Union is now 0-2 to start the season while Boston improves to 2-1.

The Terriers got on top quickly as they scored just 1:12 into the first period.  Later, Boston's Tara Watchom scored shorthanded to put the Terriers up 2-0.

The Dutchwomen would get on the board just 1:34 into the second period when Kaleigh Melia and Molly Kate Devin assisted Marissa Gentile who lit the lamp to make it 2-1.  Boston would answer with goals by Carly Warren and Jenelle Kohanchuk to put the Terriers on top 4-1.  Union would cut the deficit in half when Nicole Bartlett flipped the puck over Boston goaltender Alissa Franklin to get the Dutchwomen to within two goals at 16:20.

Boston would tack on one more goal at the end of the second and another in the third to come away with the victory.

Alana Marcinko got the start for Union in goal and made 20 saves. She was replaced by #Kate Gallagher late in the second and she had 11 saves.  Fromkin has eight saves for Boston.

Boston outshot the Dutchwomen 37-10.  Union commited seven penalties in the game and Boston would go 3-for-6 on the power play.

Union hosts Sacred Heart next Friday night October 15 at 7 pm.
