SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior guard
Leah Pepe had team highs of 15 points and seven rebounds as the Union College women's basketball team defeated Western New England, 72-43 Saturday at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Bears lost for just the second time in nine games, while the Dutchwomen improved to 2-3.
Freshmen
Amy Loya (12 points) and
Marissa Ray (10 points) both recorded season highs in the victory, while Ray and
Lauren Hennessey each added six rebounds. The Dutchwomen forced 19 turnovers and held the Bears to 33% shooting, including 26% in the second half.
Elena Radzikowski led all players with 17 points and Kelly McCormick scored 11 for WNEC. Radzikowski led the guests with six rebounds.
Union led by 12 at halftime, 36-24, and opened up the contest while shooting 50% in the second half, making 11 of 22 shots including five of eight from three point territory. The Dutchwomen went on a 16-8 run in the first 9:58 of the second stanza, leading 50-30 after a three pointer by Pepe. Union's largest lead was the one at the buzzer, 29 points.

Lauren McCormick, who was taking an exam for law school. She scored seven points in nine minutes in the second half.
The Dutchwomen close out the 2010 home portion of the schedule on Tuesday night when they host Utica at 6 p.m.
