Box Score

SCHENECTADY, NY- Visiting Rennselaer got goals from three different players and added a late empty-netter as they defeated the Union Dutchwomen 4-1 on Friday night at Messa Rink in the first game of a home and home series..

The Engineers scored twice in the first period on goals by Taylor Horton and Kristen Jakubowski to go up 2-0. They would take a 3-0 lead at 16:26 of the second period on an unassisted goal from Toni Sanders.

The Dutchwomen had a chance to get back in the game late in the second period when Union was on the five-on-three power play but they could not capitalize as RPI would kill off the penalty.

Union finally broke through in the third period when Marissa Gentile tipped in a shot from Perri Maduri to make it 3-1. With time winding down in the period, Union goaltender Kate Gallagher left the ice to give the Dutchwomen the extra attacker but the Engineers' Sydney O'Keefe fired a shot into the empty goal to put RPI up 4-1 and seal the game.

Gallagher made 30 saves in goal for Union. Sonja van der Bliek had 21 saves for the Engineers.

RPI led in shots 34-22. Union committed only two penalties in the game while RPI was whistled for four.
