POTSDAM, NY --
Shooting better than 60 percent from both inside and outside the 3-point arc, Union College jumped out to a big lead early and then held off the charge of the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, as the Dutchwomen won 74-52 in Liberty League action Friday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 6-18 overall and 2-11 in the Liberty League, while Union moved to 7-16 overall and 5-8 in conference games. Clarkson closes out the season tomorrow afternoon against first-place Skidmore College while Union warps up the season at St. Lawrence Saturday.

Though the two teams were close in the first seven minutes, with Clarkson trailing by just a single point, the Dutchwomen began to assert themselves from the perimeter and went on a 19-1 run over just a four-minute span, making the score 30-11. Another 14-6 run over the next seven minutes pushed the Union advantage to 27 points with just over a minute to go. A Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT) 3-pointer at the buzzer pulled the Knights to within half of Union, 46-23, at intermission.

Union shot 64.3 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from beyond the 3-point arc in the first half while enjoying a solid rebounding advantage as well. Rachel Titcomb scored 10 points, shooting 4-for-4 from the field, and Leah Pepe contributed 10 points and 3 assists. For Clarkson, Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, NY) added in 8 points and 4 rebounds and Goldberg scored 8 points for the Knights as well.

In the second half, Clarkson made minimal runs, but the deficit was too significant to overcome. Union shot only 35.5 percent from the field in the second half, but limited Clarkson's chances by gragging their own misses on the offensive end. For the game, Union held a 39-27 edge on the boards.

Titcomb finished with 16 points, shooting 6-for-10 from the field, with 6 rebounds, while Pepe had a game-high 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Reddinger had 11 points and 6 boards for Clarkson, while Goldberg finished with a team-high 17 points.
