DETROIT – Three Union College hockey players have been selected as alternates for the 2010 Frozen Four Skills Challenge, which will take place during the NCAA Frozen Four Weekend at Ford Field in Detroit. Senior forwards
Mario Valery-Trabucco and
Jason Walters are the selections for the Dutchmen, while senior defenseman
Jackie Koetteritz is the representative for the Dutchwomen.
A Second Team All-ECAC selection, Trabucco, who finished second in the league in scoring with 32 conference points, set the Dutchmen's single season record with 42 points and 21 goals. This season he has posted a plus-21 rating with two hat tricks and 12 multi-point games. Trabucco has been the InsideCollegeHockey.com National Player of the Week (Feb. 9) and a three time ECAC Hockey Player of the Week (Dec. 7, Dec. 14, Feb. 8).
Walters is second on the team with a career-high 16 goals, 22 assists and 38 points. He is only two points away from becoming Union's all-time Division I points leader. Entering the weekend, he has 113 points, trailing Jordan Webb's 114 points between 2001-05. Walters is also four assists away from taking over the top spot for career assists. His 71 helpers trail Joel Beal's 74 from 2001-05. He was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week twice this season (Oct. 26, Jan. 4).
One of the two captains for the Dutchmen, Koetteritz, the team's most valuable player selection, played all 34 contests this season, scoring four goals and one assist to combine for five points. She also led the Dutchwomen in power-play goals with three scored.
