SCHENECTADY, NY – A fast start paced 15th-ranked Geneseo to a 10-5 victory against the Union College men's lacrosse team in the season opener at Frank Bailey Field on Tuesday. The Knights (1-0) were led by three goals by junior Evan Bryant, while the Dutchmen (0-1) got a goal and an assist from senior
Andrew Higgins.
Tim Hayden and Brendan Kurpis each potted two goals for Geneseo, while Jeff Watson registered four assists to complement his one tally.
The Knights jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter thanks in large part to a pair of goals by Hayden. Kurpis netted his second of the game at 12:15 of the second half to make it 5-1, but Higgins narrowed the margin at 10:34.
Watson and Bryant combined for a pair to close the half.
Bryan added two more in the second half, including a tally to make it 10-3 with 3:20 remaining in the third quarter.
McKenna netted his first goal of the season at 1:22 of the third and Garibaldi closed the scoring at 14:09 of the fourth.

Sean Aaron turned away 11 shots, while Geneseo's Dennis Castanza rejected 10.
The Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Mar. 6 with a 1 p.m. contest at Babson.
