AUBURNDALE, Fla. -
The Union College baseball team lost a pair of make up games to Luther Monday. The Dutchmen lost 21-5 in the first game and 5-3 in the nightcap of the series. Both games were rescheduled after heavy thunder showers surrounded Lake Myrtle Field in Auburndale Sunday. Both games were played in seven innings.

The pair of wins move Luther to 5-2 overall while Union is now 0-3.

In the first game, Luther, designated as the visitor, got the game started when leadoff hitter and center fielder Jeff Riddle hit a home run. After right fielder Joe Thompson singled to right field, designated hitter (and later third baseman) Mark Webber hit an opposite field home run to left center and gave Luther and early 3-0 lead.

In the home half of the first inning, Union center fielder Jared Hotaling singled to center to get the Dutchmen started. After two successful stolen bases, Hotaling scored on an error by third baseman Ryan Bahnemann. Luther later scored four runs in the second, and had seven runs in both the third and fourth innings to break open the contest.

Colin McKelligan led Union with three hits while Hotaling had two hits and freshman Tyler Heck drove in two runs.

On the hill, Luther's Darin Schnieder earned the win after pitching five innings and allowing five earned runs. Union starter Seth Roberts suffered the loss after going 2 and 2/3 innings.

In the nightcap of the series, Luther, (the home team), opened the scoring in the second inning when a single by second baseman Chris Reynolds drove in first baseman Ben Schott. The Norse would later add two more runs when an error by first baseman Phil Kemp throwing to catcher Ben Price passed him and allowed both shortstop Steve Beckman and Reynolds to score the runs.

Luther would later add two more runs in the third inning.

The Dutchmen got on the board in the fifth inning when a line drive by right fielder Paul Mene drove in Hotaling and third baseman Dylan Katz-Wicks.

In the top of the seventh inning, Mene did it again when a base hit single drove Katz-Wicks home. Down 5-3 with a runner on first, Luther's relief pitcher Augie Lindmark struck out a pinch hitter to earn the save and give starting pitcher Danny Smith the win. Kevin Dexter pitched a complete game for the Dutchmen and allowed three earned runs.

The Dutchmen will face D'Youville College in a doubleheader Tuesday at Lake Myrtle Field. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
