Colin McKelligan hit two home runs, short stop
Andy Brown hit one and pitcher
Phil Kemp struck out 12 batters to help the Union College baseball team rally and defeat Lawrence 10-6 Friday at Lake Myrtle Field in Auburndale.
With the win, Union improve its record to 3-4 overall and Kemp earned his first collegiate win.
McKelligan and second baseman
Dylan Katz-Wicks both went 3-for-4 with two RBI while Kemp pitched seven innings and allowed six runs.
Lawrence center fielder Wes Otte went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Starting pitcher Andy Frelich went seven innings and struck out seven.
Both teams each hit three homers. With the help of the wind blowing toward left field, Otte hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Left fielder Michael Baldino hit a solo shot to center field in the top of the second inning to give Lawrence a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, Brown cut Lawrence's lead down to one when a hit to left field allowed the wind to push the ball over the fence for a two-run homer.
McKelligan broke a 4-4 tie leading off in the bottom of fourth inning when he hit toward right center field to record his first home run of the game.
Kemp was under pressure after Lawrence tied the game a five apiece in the fifth inning with one out and runners on second and third. But the freshman struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
Second baseman
Dane Flavin gave the Dutchmen the lead back in the bottom half of the inning when he hit the ball to the fence to record a double and send right fielder
Tyler Heck home from second base.
McKelligan hit his second homer in the seventh inning, hitting directly to center field en route to a 10-6 Dutchmen lead.
Union faces #6 Trinity on Saturday in a seven-inning doubleheader. First pitch is at 1:30 p.m. It will be the final game of the RussMatt Central Florida Tournament for the Dutchmen.
