Dutchmen lose game one to Saints, second game postponed due to loss of daylight

Box Score

CANTON, NY -
The Union College baseball team lost game one, 11-0, to St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon but due to the loss of daylight the second game has been postponed. Union and St. Lawrence are currently tied at five runs apiece after playing 15 innings. Both teams will pick up where they left off and play the 16th inning on Sunday at noon.

But in game one, Chris Cook pitched a one-hitter, striking out eight and center fielder Tim Harris hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the first as the Saints opened their weekend Liberty League series with a 11-0 win in game one of the four-game set.

Cook improved to 3-1 on the season and did not allow a hit until two out in the fourth when Dom Calistro lined a single to right center. Cook walked only one batter to go with his eight strikeouts.

Two walks and a catcher's interference loaded the bases for the Saints in the bottom of the first and while Matt D'Auteuil lined into a double play, a third walk reloaded the bases and Harris launched a shot over the 376 sign in left center for his grand slam and the game's first hit. Walks, a sacrifice bunt and a single by D'Auteuil manufactured a run for the Saints in the bottom of the third and they went up 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Paul Piatelli singled, went to second on Carter Franz' sacrifice bunt, to third on a wild pitch and scored on Ryan Duff's single.

D'Auteuil hit a three-run double to key a four run fifth inning and the Saints added a run on an outfielder error in the bottom of the sixth to complete the scoring. Starter Kevin Dexter took the loss for Union, going two and a third inning and allowing five runs.
