UTICA, NY -- The Union College baseball team swept SUNY IT in a Wednesday night doubleheader, winning the first game 6-2 and the second 6-5. With the victories the Dutchmen improve to 7-19 overall, while the losses move the Wildcats to 13-15.
Union halted an eight game skid with the pair of victories and handed SUNY IT its third and four losses in the last 11 games.
During game one, freshman
Drew Amboian first career victory on the mound, throwing five innings and whiffing two batters. Freshman
Phil Kemp came in in relief to close out the game and he struck out three and allowed just one hit.
Freshman third baseman
Dylan Katz-Wick offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. He continues to lead the Dutchmen with a .439 average and 22 RBIs.
Junior centerfielder
Anthony Cassese and freshman second baseman
Emmanuel Fabre also registered multi-hit games. Cassese went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Fabre was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored
During the second outing, senior
Matt Rogers earned the victory as he entered the game in the third inning and pitched three effective innings, striking out three batters. Freshman
Quinn Rhoda earned the save in a one-two-three seventh inning.
Freshman second baseman
Matt Barretto led the offensive charge with a 3-for-4 showing, an RBI and a run scored. Freshman first baseman
Phil Kemp registered a team-high two RBI and freshman catcher
Marc Douglas hit his first career home run – a timely one that tied the game in the sixth inning.
The Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Apr. 24 with a doubleheader against Clarkson at 1 p.m. at Central Park.
