SCHENECTADY, NY -- Junior attack Kristin Joyce scored six goals as the #11 Union women's lacrosse team improved to a perfect 6-0 in the Liberty League with a 16-4 win over St. Lawrence Saturday at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen are now 9-5 overall, while the Saints fell to 6-2 in the league and 12-3 overall.
Union outshot the vistiors, 35-12, including 24-5 in the first half. The Dutchwomen had a 28-22 ground ball advantage and were successful on 20 of 25 clears while forcing 23 Saint turnovers.
Keelin Skurek and Chelsea Charette each scored twice for the Dutchwomen, while Brittany Fraser and Melissa Hine each dished out three assists to highlight the home victory. St. Lawrence got single scores each from Kim Morse (Peaks Island, ME), Alanna Piroli (Black River, NY), Nora Langan (Philadelphia, PA) and Emily Viani (Concord, NH).
Saints goalkeeper Anna Marchand (Concord, MA) made nine saves while Cat Ruggiero, who entered the week as the NCAA Division III leader in save percentage, stopped five shots in over 55 minutes of work.
Joyce also had an assist and had nine shots, six on net. She scored three of Union's first four goals. The Dutchwomen led 3-0 after 1:01 elapsed in the game and had a 12-3 lead at halftime. The goal by Joyce with three seconds left in the first half was her 60th of the season. The goal by Morse with 3:14 left in the first was her 40th of the year for the Saints.
After the game, Union honored the seven seniors playing in their final regular season home game. Maria Prendergast, Allie Cuozzo, Lizzy Moran, Jill LaForest, Keelin Skurek, Becca Kriskey and Melissa McDonald were all recognized. Union ends the regular season with league road games April 30 at William Smith and May 1 at #1 Hamilton.
