SCHENECTADY, NY – Union College baseball senior
Andy Brown struckout six batters, but Clarkson earned a 4-3 victory in the bottom of the ninth in game two of Sunday's doubleheader. The Golden Knights won the early game, 7-2, and improved their conference record to 10-6 and their overall mark to 14-12. With the set of losses, the Dutchmen go to 1-15 in the Liberty League and 7-23 on the year.
Despite Brown's performance, senior DH Brett Peplowski singled through the right side with two outs to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
Union never trailed until the final result and grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with an RBI single by senior DH
Dan Flavin. Clarkson responded with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning.
The Dutchmen reclaimed the lead in the fifth with a two-out, RBI double by sophomore second baseman
Kevin Dexter, who scored freshman third baseman
Dylan Katz-Wick.
Again the Golden Knights responded and the trend continued in the seventh inning when Union made it 3-2 in the top half of the inning, but Clarkson tied it in the bottom half, setting up the ninth-inning finish.

During game one, senior centerfielder
John Johnson led the Dutchmen with a pair of RBIs. Trailing, 3-0 in the top of the fifth innings, Johnson singled through the leftside to score freshman catcher
Marc Douglas from third and freshman second baseman
Emmanuel Fabre from second. Douglas reached on a single up the middle and Fabre followed two at-bats latter with a double to center field.
The Golden Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second and a run in the third. After Union pulled within one, Clarkson put up four runs in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a few Dutchmen miscues.
For the game, Clarkson was led by Peplowski and junior leftfielder Chris Falteisek. Peplowski went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Falteisek was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Golden Knight pitcher, senior Steve Magovney earned the win – his second of the season – with a complete game, four strikeout performance. Senior
Andrew Catellier threw five innings for the Dutchmen, whiffing two batters.
The Dutchmen return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 27 with a 4 p.m. contest at Williams.
