Union 5, Williams 8
WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Junior leftfielder
Anthony Cassese went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, but the Union College baseball team lost at Williams, 8-5, on Tuesday afternoon. Joining Cassese with a multi-RBI effort was freshman first baseman
Dom Calistro, who went 1-for-2 and drove in two runs.
With the setback Union drops to 5-25 overall, while Williams improves to 20-9.
Cassese got things going in the top of the first when his two-out single to right centerfield scored senior centerfielder
John Johnson and senior rightfielder
Paul Mene. The Dutchmen's lead was short lived as Williams responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning.
After Williams put up two more runs in the second, Cassese tripled in the third and then scored when Calistro singled to second base. Two innings later and trailing 7-3, Union took advantage of two miscues to pull the score to 7-5. Freshman third baseman
Dylan Katz-Wick scored on an error and Mene crossed home on a passed ball. Mene reached with a double earlier in the inning.
Freshman pitcher
Brian McLaughlin was credited with the loss after throwing four innings. Sophomore
Kevin Dexter and junior
Jeremy LeFebvre supplied the relief. Dexter went three innings, while LeFebvre threw one.
The Dutchmen return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 28 at Cobleskill at 3 p.m.
