Cuozzo, Joyce highlight 14-12 league opening lacrosse win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY --
Allie Cuozzo and Kristin Joyce scored four goals each and #13 Union opened the Liberty League season with a 14-12 women's lacrosse win at Skidmore's Wachenheim Field Tuesday night. The game was delayed with 35 seconds remaining in the second half and did not end until over two hours and 30 minutes after the start. The Dutchwomen are now 3-4 overall.

Chelsea Charette and Tory Cameron scored twice each for the Dutchwomen, while Union got single goals by Brittany Fraser and Keelin Skurek

Lauren Madden led all players with six goals for the Thoroughbreds, and Kimberly Segalas and Lauren McCarthy each scored twice. 

Skidmore had a slim 28-25 shot advantage and also had 21 ground balls to the guests' 18. Skidmore converted 15 of 17 clear attempts and Union was 15 for 20 in that department. 

Cat Ruggeiro made 10 saves for the Dutchwomen while Rachel Klein stopped eight. Union had a 5-4 lead at halftime, and led by as many as six at 14-8 after Skurek tallied with 8:32 left. But Skidmore scored the next four, including Madden's sixth of the night with 35 seconds left before the delay.

Union continues a busy week in the Liberty League with home games Friday vs. Vassar (4 p.m.) and Saturday vs. RPI (2 p.m.).
