LaForest leads lacrosse Dutchwomen to 16-3 win over Vassar

Senior co-captain Jill LaForest scored a season best seven goals and the #13 Union women's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 in the Liberty League with a 16-3 victory over Vassar Friday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field. With the win, the Dutchwomen are 4-4 overall, while the Brewers fell to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Junior attack Kristin Joyce scored four tallies for the Dutchwomen, giving her 31 on the season. Her fourth goal, which came with 5:12 remaining in the first half, gave her 150 goals for her career. She is only the second player in program history to record 150 goals for women's lacrosse at Union, joining Molly Flanagan '05, who finished with 217 career goals. 

Union got single scores from Brittany Fraser, Keelin Skurek, Tory Cameron, Heather Fraser and Casey Dianni. Vassar's goals came from Moe Byrne, Sarah Warner and Larisa Lasko.

The Dutchwomen had a 33-10 shot advantage, including a 25-4 total in the first half. Union was nine for 12 in clears and won 17 of the 21 draw controls. Cat Ruggiero made four saves for the Dutchwomen in nearly 51 minutes, and Alexis Deeb came in to see action but did not have to make a save in just over nine minutes. Nicole Engelhardt stopped eight for Vassar in the first half, and Heather Kesselman made three saves in the second period. Union had a 12-0 lead at halftime.

LaForest now has 15 goals on the season.

The Dutchwomen are back home Saturday at 2 p.m. to face league rival RPI.
