Baseball splits at Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY –
The Union College baseball team split two games at Skidmore on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen took game one 3-2 and the Thoroughbreds won game two 6-0.

After Saturday's doubleheader, Union is now 9-25 overall and 2-15 in Liberty League.

Matt Barretto went 2-for-3 at the plate and circle the bases once. After hitting a double to left center, Tyler Heck brought in Barretto with a ground out sacrifice to break the scoreless game in the third inning.

Union added two more runs in the fourth inning. After Anthony Cassese doubled to right center and Andy Brown brought Cassese home and reached on an error in left field, Marc Douglas' double down the left field line sent Brown home.

Skidmore's two runs came in the fifth inning when Jake Mendell's single scored in Alex Barber and Adam Cornachione.

Seth Roberts pitched six solid innings, allowing only two runs, no walks and four strikeouts to improve his record to 1-4. Jeremy LeFebvre earned his second save on the season.

In the second game, Peter Mugford went 1-for-3. Phil Kemp pitched four innings but was credited the loss and falls to 2-4.

Both teams will meet for two more games on Sunday at Central Park at noon.
